On Dec. 30, 2010, a Delaware County PA bicyclist was hit and killed by a drunk hit & run driver. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a 62 year-old bicycle rider from Lansdowne PA was struck from behind by the defendant's pick-up truck. The bicyclist was thrown 30' into the air by the force of the bicycle accident. The PA bicycle accident victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The defendant fled the scene of the bicycle accident and hit a minivan in his haste to escape. Upper Darby Police were able to apprehend the defendant.

Allentown Bicyclist Injured in Car Accident

On Dec. 20, 2010, an Allentown PA bicyclist was injured when he was involved in an accident with a car at the intersection of 18th Street and Webster Street in Allentown. As described in The Morning Call, the 20 year old bike rider crashed into the side of the car at 6:55 p.m. Allentown Police stated that the Lehigh Valley bicyclist was not wearing reflective gear at the time of the accident.

Montco Bicyclist Injured in Collision with `Cycle

On Nov. 14, 2010, a 14 year-old boy riding his bicycle near Skippack PA was hit by a Suzuki motorcycle driven by a Norristown resident. According to The Reporter, the PA bicycle-motorcycle accident took place at the intersection of Rt. 113 and Landis Road.

Jail Time For Montco Bicycle Accident Hit & Run Defendant

On Oct. 21, 2010, a Bryn Mawr driver was sentenced by a Montgomery County judge to a minimum 3 month jail time sentence after her hit and run guilty plea. On July 15, 2009 the defendant hit a 13 year old bicyclist and fled the scene. She later hid her Volvo station wagon and repeatedly lied about the cause of her car's property damage. The PA bicycle accident victim's mother told Philly.com that her son still has trouble with balance, as well as hearing in his right ear.

Northumberland Bicycle Accident Injures Cyclist & Pedestrian

On Aug. 27, 2010, a Northumberland bicyclist was involed in an accident with a pedestrian in Den-Mar Gardens, Mount Carmel Township, PA.  As described in newsitem.com, a 53 year-old bicyclist collided with an 11 year-old girl who was in the street in front of her home playing basketball.  The bike rider was bleeding profusely from the face and was taken to Shamokin Area Community Hospital for medical care.

Delaware County Bicycle Accident Victim Dies After Crash

On July 15, 2010, a Delaware County PA bicycle accident victim died after an accident on West Chest Pike in Marple near I-476.  According to the Delco Times, the bicycle-car accident took place around 10:00 a.m on West Chester Pike near the northbound entrance to the Blue Route.  The bicyclist was struck by a Honda and thrown from the bike landing on the highway.  The bike rider was flown to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania but was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Lehigh County Bicyclist Hit by Lower Macungie Driver

On July 10, 2010, a 56 year old Lehigh Valley bicyclist was hit by a driver who was backing out of her driveway on Quarry Road in Lower Macungie.  According to the Morning Call, the impact caused the bicyclist to fly off the bike and land onto the automobile's rear window.  The bicycle rider was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown Pennsylvania.

Killed on Charity Bicycle Tour

On June 22, 2010, a Pennsylvania bicyclist was killed in New Mexico while riding his bicycle across the country to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.  The bicycle accident took place in New Laguna, N. M. when an SUV hit the Schuylkill County bicyclist on June 21, 2010.  He died the following day due to serious head injuries.  The Ringtown PA bicycle rider and 3 of his friends had departed from Pennsylvania on May 23, 2010.

On June 11, 2010, a 15 year old Allentown bicycle rider was killed after being struck by a pick-up truck in Greenwich Township, Berks County PA.  According to the Morning Call, Pennsylvania State Police investigators concluded that the bicycle crossed into the path of the pick-up truck.  The Allentown bicycle accident victim was thrown from the bike and sustained traumatic injuries.  The bicyclist was declared dead at the scene of the accident by the Berks County Coroner's Office.

A May 14, 2010 article posted on wduqnews.com reviewed the fact that 16 bicyclists were killed in Pennsylvania in 2009 which was double the amount of bike riders killed in 2008.  Quoting PennDOT spokeswoman Alison Wenger, several steps need to be taken to reduce bicycle fatalities:  make sure all bicycles have reflectors, ride on the right side of the road with traffic and follow the same traffic laws as motorists.

Claims Cyclist's Life

On May 6, 2010, a bicycle rider was on State Route 453 in Snyder Township, Blair County when a car made a left turn in front of him causing the bicycle-car crash.  According to wearecentralpa.com, the automobile driver complained to the Pennsylvania State Police that he was temporarily blinded by glare in his window.  The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by the Blair County Coroner's office.

Scooter Accident Death

On April 20, 2010, an Ambler PA man was charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI and reckless driving after the March 17, 2010 death of a 13 year-old boy.  The teenager was riding his Razor scooter in his Lower Gwynedd Township neighborhood when the Montgomery County driver struck him.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said that the Defendant was high on drugs and driving 63 miles per hour at the time of the crash.  An accident re-constructionist determined that the driver went into the oncoming lane when he hit the scooter rider.  The motor vehicle left 165 feet of skid marks.  The driver was transported to Lansdale Hospital for a blood sample to be taken - which evidence was used in the criminal charges.

On March 26, 2010, a 14 year-old bicycle accident victim died from injuries she sustained in a March 20, 2010 crash.  The Beaver County PA resident was riding the same bicycle with a friend in White Township.  They lost control of the bike, hit a tree and fell 30 feet down a hill.  As described on wpxi.com, a Geneva College student was riding his bicycle nearby when he found the girls and called 911.

Both bicyclists were flown from the scene of the bicycle accident to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.  The victims were students at Blackhawk High School which has plans for fundraisers to aid their families.

Victim Dies After Hit By Bus

On March 17, 2010, a 13 year-old Easton PA bicyclist was struck and killed by a LANTA bus while riding on Northampton Street.  According to The Morning Call, the bicycle rider rode out from an alley between 8th and 9th Streets right into the path of the bus.  The Northampton County Coroner declared the bicyclist dead at the scene of the accident.   The death was ruled an accident.

The BMX bike the Easton resident was riding was purchased just an hour before the bus-bike collision.  Eyewitnesses report that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet when he was hit by the bus and may have had trouble applying the brakes.  Easton Police later determined that the bike's brakes were in working order at the time of the crash.  The police also concluded that the LANTA bus driver was traveling well below the speed limit when the bicycle cut in front of him.

On March 9, 2010 an alleged drunk driver struck a Philadelphia police officer while he was riding his bicycle on patrol in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.  According to philly.com, the drunk driver knocked the officer off his bike resulting in numerous scrapes and bruises.  Medical care was provided at a local hospital for the bicyclist.  The driver was charged with DUI.
