Montco Man Attacked by 2 Pit Bulls

An April 22, 2012 article from montgomerynews.com reported on a recent pit bull attack in Whitpain Township. A 68 year-old man was jogging on Muhlenburg Drive on April 10th when he was attacked and bitten by 2 pit bull terriers.

The Montgomery County PA dog bite victim informed the Whitpain Twp. Police that the pit bulls’ owner was unable to control them as they were running on his front yard before they attacked him. The Montco resident was taken to Mercy Suburban Hospital for treatment of numerous bite wounds and lacerations.

An April 20, 2012 article from Pottstownpost.com highlighted the option available for many PA dog owners to buy their dog license via the internet. The annual license for a spayed/neutered dog is $6.45. Online payments require an additional $2.00 surcharge. Unfortunately, only 24 of the 67 counties in PA permit online registration.

Horsham Township Passes Strict Dog Ordinance

An April 17, 2012 article on horsham.patch.com reviewed a new dog ordinance passed by a Montgomery County PA Township Council to control problem dogs. Horsham Township passed a law that prohibits dogs from barking excessively and/or roaming unrestrained throughout Horsham Township neighborhoods.

Fines range from $100 to $500. This Montgomery County Township hopes its ordinance will serve as a supplement to the PA Dog Law to help reduce the many complaints they are receiving from their residents about dogs in the community. Areas of Kohler Park that include the dog park are exempt from the ordinance.

PA Turnpike Fatal Car Accident

On April 16, 2012, a Berks County PA car accident victim died due to injuries sustained in a car crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike 2 days earlier. According to The Pocono Record, the woman was driving on the PA Turnpike when a truck crashed into a traffic control sign, knocking the sign into the incoming travel lanes.

The PA car crash victim was struck in the head by the sign. Her automobile hit another vehicle and then struck a concrete barrier. She was medevaced to Reading Hospital. The Berks County Deputy Coroner pronounced her dead two days later. The 31 year-old woman had worked as a web editor for Montgomery Media and editor for the Souderton Independent and Perkasie News Herald newspapers.

Poconos Pit Bull Attack Injures Teenager

On April 11, 2012, Attorney Newell spoke with the father of a teenage girl who was recently attacked by a pit bull in Monroe County PA. The young woman was walking her dachshund mix in the street when they were attacked by an unrestrained pit bull. The pit bull owner was renting a nearby property and allegedly accidentally left a gate open.

The Monroe County dog attack victim received medical care at Pocono Medical Center for a large laceration to her arm. The severity of her injuries caused her to be admitted to the hospital. Stroud Township police officers have turned their investigative materials over to Monroe County Dog Warden, George Nixon. Multiple citations for violating the PA Dog Law are expected, including harboring a dangerous dog.

Lancaster County PA Pit Bull Attack

On April 10, 2012, Attorney Newell interviewed a Lancaster County man whose young son was recently attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull. This pit bull had been running loose on the victim’s property multiple times in the past. The irresponsible pit bull owner failed to take corrective measures.

The Lancaster County dog bite victim was playing in his backyard when the pit bull grabbed his left arm and began to bite him. The young boy was able to break free and his parents quickly took their son to Ephrata Community Hospital for ER care. Easton PA Woman Attacked by Dog

On April 10, 2012, Attorney Thomas J. Newell spoke with the husband of an Easton PA dog bite victim. The woman and her infant daughter were walking down the street when a neighbor’s Golden Retriever came out of its owner’s garage and began to attack them.

The Lehigh Valley dog attack victim instinctively put up her arm to fend off the aggressive dog. She was treated at a Lehigh Valley area hospital and released. Forks Township Police are considering filing charges against the dog owner for violating the PA Dog Law, including failure to confine.

Westmoreland County Bull Mastiff Attacks Again

On March 29, 2012, a Mount Pleasant PA family became victimized again by a neighbor’s bull mastiff. According to wtae.com, the vicious dog broke free from its chain and attacked a 19 year old girl. The young woman was able to free herself from the bull mastiff and jumped on her car to escape the attack.

Last summer, the Westmoreland County dog bite victim’s brother was bitten by the same bull mastiff and needed 15 stitches to close all the bite wounds. Pennsylvania State Police and a local dog enforcement officer will be investigating this most recent attack. PA Dog Law violations are expected to be cited to the bull mastiff’s owner.

Delaware County Pit Bull Attack Kills Spaniel

A March 26, 2012 pit bull attack in Upper Darby PA resulted in the death of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. As described in The Delco Times, 2 blue pit bulls were roaming loose in the Highland Park Section of Upper Darby when they attacked the spaniel in its own backyard. The small dog was taken to the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital in Pennsylvania where it died from its wounds.

Upper Darby police say that the pit bull owners were not home when their dogs got loose. The pit bulls are under a 10 day quarantine. The owner will be charged with several PA Dog Law violations for failure to confine and harboring dangerous dogs as the 2 pit bulls charged at an officer who responded to the pit bull attack.
