Posted on: July 30th, 2012       Attorney Thomas Newell

A July 19, 2012  report on wnep.com reviewed all the facts regarding a 7/17/12 pit bull attack in Nanticoke PA that resulted in 2 injuries and the death of one of the pit bulls.  The pit bulls came out of the woods and began to growl at the woman as she tried to enter her business on Front Street.

Another person pulled into the parking lot.  As he stepped out of his car, the 2 pit bulls attacked him and he was bitten on the leg.  The Luzerne County dog bite victim called 911 and ran into his office.  The pit bulls scratched at the door to his office and remained in an aggressive state.

When the police arrive, one of the pit bulls bit an officer in the leg.  He then shot both dogs.  One died and the other was taken to an Animal Hospital.  PA Dog Law charges will be filed vs. the pit bull owner.

A July 11, 2012 report on myfoxphilly.com detailed a second dog attack by a German Shepherd in as many months. The day before, an elderly woman tried to protect her pug as the vicious German Shepherd was in full attack mode. The attacking canine was running loose and unrestrained in Philadelphia.

The PA dog bite victim was bitten on the breasts, arms, thigh and lower leg. She received medical care at a local hospital. Oxford Avenue neighbors claim that the German Shepherd had bitten another neighbor last month. Hopefully, officials will charge the defendant with multiple violations of the PA Dog Law, including harboring a dangerous dog.

Dangerous Dog Charge For Bucks County Pit Bull Owner

Posted on: July 16th, 2012       Attorney Thomas Newell

On July 11, 2012, the Hulmeville Police Department released to the Bucks County PA dog bite attorney a 4 page report regarding their investigation of a 6/8/12 pit bull attack in Hulmeville PA. A young boy had been an invited guest of the defendants. After entering the defendants’ home, he was attacked by their unrestrained pit bull.

The Bucks County pit bull attack victim was bitten on both hands and his right leg. He was taken to Doylestown Hospital where 15 individual puncture wounds were identified. 9 stitches were needed to close the dog bite wounds. He also was later given a tetanus shot.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this pit bull had made an unprovoked attack on a human being. In August of 2011, the pit bull had bitten another neighborhood boy. He received dog bite wounds to his right arm and back which needed medical care at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne PA. The defendant mother has been charged with 2 PA Dog Law violations: harboring a dangerous dog and owning an unlicensed dog.

York Dog Park Attack Victim Hires Attorney Newell

Posted on: July 13th, 2012       Attorney Thomas Newell

On July 7, 2012, a York County dog attack victim hired Attorney Thomas J. Newell to represent her. The woman, her children and the family dog were enjoying a spring day at the John Rudy Dog Park in York County. The defendants’ dog was aggressive, unrestrained and unsupervised.

The York PA dog bite victim decided it was prudent to leash her dog and remove him from the volatile situation. As she was on her knees hooking her dog onto its leash, the defendants’ mixed breed dog attacked her from behind. She sustained dog bite wounds to her right arm that required stitches which were administered at Memorial Hospital.

The fact that the defendants were in a dog park does not give them a free pass to violate the PA Dog Law and not have their dog under control. If you or a loved one have been attacked by a dog, call Attorney Thomas J. Newell at 800-980-4842 to schedule a free home visit. See his website: PADogAttackLawyer.com.

PA Legislature Passes Tougher Hit & Run Bill

Posted on: July 11th, 2012       Attorney Thomas Newell

A June 29 press release from PA Representative Phyllis Mundy of Luzerne County discussed a bill that has been passed to close a loophole for hit and run defendants. Previously, those convicted of a hit & run offense in Pennsylvania would receive less time in jail than those convicted of a DUI.

Once Governor Corbett signs the legislation, those convicted of a hit and run in PA would be found guilty of a 2nd degree felony – the same level of crime as for a Pennsylvania DUI conviction. This would eliminate the possibility of a drunk driver receiving a lesser sentence by fleeing the scene of a PA car crash.

Berks County Family Terrorized By Neighbor’s Dogs

Posted on: July 9th, 2012       Attorney Thomas Newell

On July 5, 2012, a Berks County woman was bitten by a neighbor’s dog as she was standing on her property speaking to a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper. 3 of the neighbor’s dogs had gotten loose and ran into the victim’s yard. She had been attacked by the same dog a year earlier. One of the other unrestrained dogs had bitten her husband in 2011.

The Berks County dog bite victim was treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown PA. Her dog bite wounds were cleansed and she was given antibiotics. Berks County Dog Warden, Orlando Aguirre, is investigating this latest attack by the vicious and aggressive dog. Hopefully, the dog owners will be charged with multiple violations of the PA Dog Law.

Attorney Newell Investigates Montco Pit Bull Attack

Posted on: July 2nd, 2012       Attorney Thomas Newell

On June 27, 2012, Attorney Thomas J. Newell spoke with the wife of a Montgomery County PA pit bull attack victim. The gentleman had observed that a neighbor had left his motorcycle’s lights on. When he went to the rider’s door to inform him of the situation, the pit bull broke thru the screen door and went after the Royersford PA resident.

The Montco dog bite victim sustained puncture wounds to the left forearm/wrist area. Fortunately, he picked up his dachshund just in time to avoid any injury to it. The Good Samaritan received ER care and was placed on antibiotics. The pit bull was quarantined for 10 days, as per the PA Dog Law. The Royersford Animal Control Officer is investigating the PA dog attack. Interestingly, the defendant himself identified his pit bull as a “very aggressive dog.”
