Posted on: November 29th, 2013       Attorney Thomas Newell

On November 26, 2013, Attorney Newell received a telephone call from the family of an elderly woman whose husky mix sustained serious injuries after being mauled by a pit bull.  The innocent victim was relaxing outside her home with the family dog when the vicious pit bull jumped a fence and began the unprovoked attack in Washington County, PA.

HUSKY #4A neighbor came over to help and the pit bull turned on him, biting his ankle.  Ultimately, the police needed to Taser and then shoot the pit bull to stop the attack.  Attorney Newell reviewed the Pennsylvania Dog Law statute with the victim’s family regarding restitution for veterinary expenses.

Lancaster Pit Bull Owner Faces Charges

A November 12, 2013 report on WGAL TV highlighted multiple criminal charges filed against a Lancaster pit bull owner.  She had purchased an 11 month old pit bull and was specifically warned not to leave the dog around children due to its aggressive demeanor.  The new owner disregarded the warning and dropped off the pit bull at her residence where 4 children were inside.

PIT BULL #12Soon thereafter, the vicious pit bull began an unprovoked attack on a 5 year-old girl causing serious injuries.  The defendant then went to the work place of the former owner and punched her – an act caught on the store’s video surveillance.  The police have charged the pit bull owner with simple assault and recklessly endangering the welfare of a child.
