On 12/20/13, Attorney Thomas J. Newell began his legal representation of a Schuylkill County dog attack victim who had been referred to him by a Schuylkill County personal injury lawyer.  On 11/5/13, the 58 year-old man was jogging on Raven Run Road outside of Shenandoah, PA when two unrestrained dogs began to pursue him.

It appears that their owners were walking with them in the nearby woods without leashes in violation of the PA Dog Law.  The Bull Mastiff and Labrador Retriever chased after him.  The Pennsylvania dog attack victim was bitten on the right forearm and his right flank.  In excess of a dozen stitches were needed to close the dog bite wounds.

PA Dog Warden, Richard Hine, is investigating this unprovoked PA dog attack.  Contact Attorney Newell today if you’ve been mauled/attacked by a dog in Pennsylvania.  Arrange for a free home consultation by calling 1-800-980-4842.  See Attorney Newell’s dog bite settlements @ www.NewellLaw.com

On 1/10/13, the dog owner was found guilty by District Justice Rebecca Jo Margerum of violating both the PA Dog Law, as well as the Pennsylvania Rabies Prevention and Control in Domestic Animals and Wildlife Act.  The negligent dog owner did not offer a valid defense to the charge of violating Section 305 of the PA Dog Law – Failure to Confine.  He also did not produce any documents establishing that the boxers were up-to-date with their rabies shots.

Pittsburgh Animal Shelter Euthanizes Vicious Pit Bull

Posted on: December 18th, 2013       Attorney Thomas Newell

A December 13, 2013 article from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette described the recent decision by a Pittsburgh Animal Shelter to euthanize a pit bull that had attacked other dogs in 2 separate incidents.  Earlier this year, a Jack Russell Terrier had gotten out of its cage and “ran right by Blue (the pit bull) that was being walked on a leash.”  While Attorney Newell can’t conceive how the actions of the Jack Terrier would have warranted an attack, the pit bull killed the terrier.

While “human error” apparently permitted the terrier to escape from its pen, this author can’t comprehend how this could have been reasonably viewed as anything other than an unprovoked attack by the pit bull.  Nonetheless, the pit bull was permitted to remain at “Animal Friends.”  Just before Thanksgiving, the pit bull attacked again, this time versus a leashed pit bull.  Finally, the animal shelter did the right thing and put the pit bull down.

Attorney Thomas J. Newell has represented many pit bull attack victims throughout the course of his 32 year career.  Whether it’s an American Pit Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, the breeds we commonly refer to as “pit bulls” typically cause severe injuries to other dogs and human beings.  Attorney Newell believes their breeding, strength, ferocity and jaw anatomy is without equal in the world of dogs owned by the typical family here in Pennsylvania.  Call Attorney Newell @ 800-980-4842 if you’ve been bitten by a dog.  Visit his website:  www.NewellLaw.com.
