Allegheny County Newborn Killed by Family’s Husky

On Feb. 16, 2012, a three day old boy was mauled to death by one of the family’s 4 dogs. The infant’s mother told the McKeesport Police Department that she left the baby in a carrier on the living room floor to go upstairs to use the bathroom. When she returned, the family’s pit bull & husky were circling around the screaming infant.

When the mother pulled away the husky, there was blood on its face and she saw severe bite wounds to her son’s head. The Allegheny County dog bite victim was flown to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (UPMC) where he was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed by the Allegheny County Coroner’s Office.

Wpix.com has reported that the husky had displayed prior aggressive/vicious tendencies in the past. These acts included killing the family’s cat and trying to jump out of a window to go after other neighborhood animals. The boy’s mother had been cited in 2011 for violating the PA Dog Law regarding proper vaccinations for her dogs. Both the husky and pit bull were removed from the home by a McKeesport animal control officer. A local McKeesport ordinance limits each household to 2 dogs.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that there were 4 dogs inside the home at the time of the fatal PA dog attack.
