On Sept. 2, 2011, two crashes took place at the same accident scene on the NE Extension claiming the life of one occupant. According to philly.com, a car ran into the rear of a tractor-trailer in the northbound lanes near the Lansdale PA exit. Another driver pulled over to help when his automobile was struck by a tanker truck. The Pennsylvania Turnpike was closed between the Lansdale and Quakertown exits for 8 hours.
