On Feb. 4, 2011, a Palmerton PA driver died in an accident on Lower Smith Gap Road in Eldred Township, Monroe County. According to The Morning Call, the driver went off the road at a curve and crashed into a snowy embankment. Pennsylvania State Police from the Lehighton Barracks theorized that the Carbon County driver was going too fast for the conditions.
