PennDOT To Install Barriers in LV on I-78

A Jan. 31, 2011 article from wfmz.com revealed good news for all Lehigh Valley drivers. PennDOT has agreed to spend 9 million dollars to install cable median barriers on that stretch of Interstate 78 that runs through Lehigh County and Northampton County.

Currently, there is no median barrier in place. A number of fatalities have been blamed on drivers going thru the grassy median strip and colliding with vehicles in the oncoming lanes of travel on I-78. A PennDOT spokesman claims the cable median barrier will stretch upon impact and, therefore, lessen the severity of similar crashes with concrete barriers.
