Pennsylvania 2010 Car Accident Fatalities Rise

A recent article from The Morning Call highlighted PennDOT’s report of PA motor vehicle accidents in 2010. There were 1,324 deaths on Pennsylvania’s highways – 68 more than in 2009. This 54% increase in traffic fatalities was blamed on a number of factors.

524 people died who were not wearing their seat belts – up 16% from the previous year. Car crashes caused by speeding increased 23%, from 231 to 284. Fatal accidents involving 16 & 17 year old drivers jumped 42%, from 40 to 57. Alcohol related accidents increased by 2 to 444.
