Pit Bull Mauling Victim to Undergo Head Surgery

Posted on: December 14th, 2010       Attorney Thomas Newell

On Dec. 15, 2010, an 8 year-old pit bull attack victim will be placed under general anesthesia to undergo the first of a number of reconstructive surgeries. This tissue expansion procedure will begin with the surgeon cutting into his scalp and inserting balloons adjacent to both sides of his head wound. The balloons will be filled with saline solution which will stretch portions of his skin to, hopefully, cover the hole that currently exists in his scalp.

The child had been viciously attacked by pit bulls in York County PA on June 1, 2010 and received extensive medical care at Hershey Medical Center. Surgeons at Yale-New Haven Hospital will perform the latest surgical procedure. The PA dog attack victim will miss at least 2 months of school as he will be confined to his home to help prevent infection.
