On Aug. 8, 2011, the Pottsville PA City Council voted into law a dangerous dog law, Ordinance 803 of 2011. Pottsville Police, as well as the Pottsville Health Officer will have the power to enforce the new law. Owners who are found guilty of harboring a dangerous dog will pay a $600.00 fine, an initial $250.00 registration fee and an annual renewal fee of $250.00.
If a dog has committed 3 violations of the law, there will be mandatory euthanasia of the dangerous dog at the dog owner’s expense. Still under review is a system to keep track of dangerous dog cases. Pennsylvania dog bite victims should have the ability to access information regarding prior attacks by dangerous dogs that attack them.
