On Saturday Oct. 29, 2011, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. the Dressin Animal Shelter of Honesdale, Pennsylvania will be hosting discounted rabies vaccinations. The vaccine fee for cats and dogs is only $7.00 per animal. Dr. Henry Nebzydoski, Jr., DVM and his staff from Carbondale Veterinary Hospital will be administering the rabies vaccinations.

The rabies vaccine clinic will take place at the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Miller Road, just north of Honesdale. More information can be obtained from PA Humane Officer Marlene Metzger at 570-647-0239. Researchers estimate that there are approximately 50,000 worldwide deaths each year from the rabies virus.

In August, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia announced that it had received a multi-million dollar grant to pursue additional testing of a new rabies vaccine that would hopefully be able to treat more advanced cases of rabies infections.
